Discovering Inner Peace with Pearl of Hope Counseling PLLC

"No Surprises Act" & Good Faith Estimates

The No Surprises Act, passed in December 2020 under Section 2799B-6 of the Public Health Service Act, aims to shield consumers from unexpected medical bills. One key provision, effective January 1, 2022, mandates the use of Good Faith Estimates by healthcare providers to offer clients transparency regarding anticipated healthcare costs.

What is a Good Faith Estimate? A Good Faith Estimate offers an approximate projection of total expected costs for non-emergency healthcare items or services. It:

  • Aims to provide clarity and transparency in healthcare charges before appointments.
  • Encompasses all regularly scheduled sessions, such as therapy appointments.
  • Excludes fees related to unforeseen circumstances like no-shows, late cancellations, or crisis care.
  • May include consultations with collateral contacts, paperwork requests, and other pre-scheduled administrative fees.
